  10. Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers. I'm a club leader, but want to formalise this with British Canoeing, so this is my White Water Kayak Leader BC assessment with Wild River. I'm looking for 3-4 people to be led on a river trip with me leading. It's just me leading with the assessor, so max 6 in total. IMPORTANT: Could everyone please complete the short booking form on Wild River's website here (https://wildriver.co.uk/short-booking-form). This is just so the day is covered by their insurance and they've got emergency details etc... Trip Leader: Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. Trip type : Club Lead 2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers). 3. Date : 01/11/2021 4. Venue : TBC, by Sunday evening 9pm. Will be grade 2/3. 5. Meet location / time : Probably 9.00am (possibly later, exact time tbc). Likely South Lakes (Leven, Lune or Lower Rawthey), but could be the Eden if nothing else is running. 6. Meet to share lifts at : Arrange own. 7. Weather : Low water and high water options available. Hopefully some rain leading up to the day but not a deluge. Weather should be warming up by April, but please bring warm clothing in case there is some waiting around. 8. Please only book if you are definite, as the assessment will have to be cancelled if I don't have enough. Check on WhatsApp Monday morning first thing to ensure suitable river levels and the trip is running.
  11. A trip to the Tryweryn in North Wales. This is a dam release river, and a man made, but natural feeling white water course. You need to book yourself a space on the national White water centre website here https://www.nationalwhitewatercentre.co.uk/. Go to book, then select paddler facility fee. Limited spaces available, so don't leave it until the last minute. I'm driving down first thing and back after. It's a bit of a trek, but worth it. Trip Leader: Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. Trip type : Club Led 2. Level of ability : Intermediate. This is a grade 3 river, but a man made course. Some of the rapids are tricky, but nothing particularly scary. 3. Date : 17/07/2021 4. Venue : Tryweryn, upper section. 5. Meet location / time : Meeting at the Tryweryn National White Water centre at 10.00am. 6. Meet to share lifts at : Arrange own. 7. Weather : Good weather forecast. This is a dam release facility, so water won't be a problem. 8. Anything else : Shuttle for boats available, but you need to walk yourself back to the top. Likely we will carry up a few times too, or do our own shuttle. Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking and Covid-19. Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ Please RSVP on the calendar by Friday [early] evening. Check on WhatsApp Saturday morning first thing to ensure suitable river levels and the trip is running.
  12. I've had to move this trip from the 8th to the 15th. Please check you can still make it if you have signed up. Thanks.
  13. Update: Friday 14th. Sorry, trip is cancelled due to leader being I'll. Update: Wednesday 12th. It looks like we should have some water for once. It's still likely to be low, but we don't need a lot. Location is very dependant on what rain we get over the next couple of days, so keep an eye on WhatsApp for updates please. Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers. These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one. If you have not paddled on one of my trips before, I'll drop you a line for a chat before the date. The aim of this session will be a simple river trip with opportunity to play on the way down. Trip Leader: Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. Trip type : Club Lead 2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers). One space reserved for an assistant river leader. Please contact me if interested. 3. Date : 15/05/2021 4. Venue : TBC, by Saturday morning 8am. Will be grade 2/3. 5. Meet location / time : 10.00am 6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19. 7. Weather : Low water and high water options available. Hopefully some rain leading up to the day but not a deluge. Weather should be warming up by May, but please bring warm clothing in case there is some waiting around. 8. Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ Please RSVP on the calendar by Friday [early] evening. Check on WhatsApp Saturday morning first thing to ensure suitable river levels and the trip is running.
  14. Update: 28/04/2021 - Very little water about and very little forecast. I don't expect the rivers to come up enough to paddle. Rather than leaving it to the last minute on the vague hope that a deluge befalls us, I'm going to cancel and give people a chance to plan some dry weather activities instead. Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers. These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one. If you have not paddled on one of my trips before, I'll drop you a line for a chat before the date. The aim of this session will be picking, and hitting lines. We will be assessing each rapid from the bank, talking about it, choosing a line, trying to hit it, then getting out and trying again. We'll pick a shortish section of river with easy options for retries on the various rapids. You might be aiming for the easiest possible line, or the hardest possible line. We may even pick out some challenges if it's too easy! Trip Leader: Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. Trip type : Club Lead 2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers). One space reserved for an assistant river leader. Please contact me if interested. 3. Date : 01/05/2021 4. Venue : TBC, by Saturday morning 8am. Will be grade 2/3. 5. 15. Update 21/04 - Unfortunately very little water about and none forecast, so this trip is now cancelled. Update 19/04 - Very little water about and no rain forecast for the weekend. There is a chance the forecast changes, so I'll make a decision on Wednesday on whether this trip is still on. If this trip doesn't run, I will likely run an improvers sea kayak trip on the Leven estuary. Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers. These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one. If you have not paddled on one of my trips before, I'll drop you a line for a chat before the date. Do you know your draw stroke from your stern rudder? Have you perfected your hanging draw ? We fall into the habit of using the stroke that works, without working out why those other strokes don't. We'll look at a variety of strokes on flat water. We'll then take them to a short white water run and see how they feel. If you want to do some reading/watching in advance, check out Eric Jackson (EJ) on YouTube, or his book "Whitewater Paddling: Strokes and concepts" Trip Leader: Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. BE COVID AWARE PEER trip Update 04/12/2020: Anglesey Outdoors now has bookings open for February. I'm booked in from Thursday evening (4th) for 4 nights. Feel free to do the same or travel down Friday morning. I will be setting up a WhatsApp group for organising specifics closer to the date. Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 4 days of sea kayaking in Anglesey. There is everything in Anglesey from sheltered bays and mellow coast hugging, to rock hopping and tide races. This is an intermediate level trip, so we will be avoiding the main tide races (Penrhyn Mawr, North & South Stack). What trips we do will very much depend on those attending, the weather and the tide. Trips will be planned for each of the 4 days on the night before, you're welcome to join me in the planning. Friday afternoon will likely be a warm up trip from Rhoscolyn beach (weather dependant). 1. Trip type : Sea 2. Level of ability : Intermediate or better 3. Date : 05/02/2020 until 08/02/2020 4. Venue : Anglesey, most likely staying in Anglesey Outdoors. Shared accommodation is probably out of the question, so would be easiest to arrange your own accommodation. Anglesey isn't a big place, so even if you don't book it at Anglesey Outdoors, we won't be far from each other. 5. Meet location / time : 11.00am @ Anglesey Outdoors on the 5th (Friday). We will co-ordinate from there for the paddle in the afternoon. 6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19. 7. Weather : We can run this trip in anything other than a severe storm. There are good sheltered spots (e.g. Rhoscolyn beach) in Anglesey for if it's windy, and a good surf spot at Trearddur Bay. 8. Anything else : We may run shuttles in the event of a one way trip. Shuttles will be done with mitigation, so please bring your own face covering. Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking and Covid-19. Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ Note: this is a peer trip. I am happy to co-ordinate and organise the trip, but we are all responsible for each other on the water. Please RSVP by Monday 1st February. You will be added to a WhatsApp group for this trip. Please check that for updates.
