  4. BE COVID AWARE PEER trip Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers. These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one. Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 Background: I'm working towards my white water kayak leader assessment having completed my training last year. Encouraging members of the group make decisions on the water is a key part to the award. The aim of this session is just working our way down the river. You will be deciding where we stop, whether we should inspect, which channel we should take. It's all part of naturally being part of a functioning peer group on the water. 1. Trip type : River 2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers). 3. Date : 31/10/2020 4. Venue : TBC, by Saturday morning 8am. Will be a longer section of water to enable a full river trip. Bring sandwiches! 5. Meet location / time : 10.00am 6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19. 7. Weather : We'll ideally have a bit of water for this to give us a different river option. 8. Anything else : Running shuttles with mitigation, so please bring your own face covering or organise your own shuttle. Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking and Covid-19. 6. BE COVID AWARE PEER trip Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers. These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one. Background: A great way to learn and improve skills is via focused and structured practice. I'm working towards my white water kayak leader assessment having completed my training last year. Including structured and fun sessions on the water is part of the award, but also great for your and my skills too. The aim of this session will be picking, and hitting lines. We will be assessing each rapid from the bank, talking about it, choosing a line, trying to hit it, then getting out and trying again. We'll pick a short-ish section of river with easy options for retries on the various rapids. You might be aiming for the easiest possible line, or the hardest possible line. We may even pick out some challenges if it's too easy! 1. Trip type : River 2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers). 3. Date : 10/10/2020 4. 13. Not going to guess, we'll have to see in the morning what's a good level and plan accordingly.
  14. BE COVID AWARE PEER trip Update: Friday afternoon, plenty of rain today taking the Clough, Rawthey and Ribble to high levels. There is a chance they will be too high tomorrow, but we'll see. There's a chance the Wenning might come up enough, alternatively, the Kent is a backup plan. Update: Saturday morning, the Lakes is looking very high but good levels in the dales. The Wenning has come up, and started going down again. Currently on 1.2 (medium). Get in is at Clapham station here https://goo.gl/maps/achKiet5meoSgXnWA. Get out at Hornby here https://goo.gl/maps/aCCiqL5WDfUbnPpB9 Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. Trip type : River 2. Level of ability : Intermediate 3. Date : 04/07/2020 4. Venue : River Wenning from Clapham to Hornby 5. Meet location / time : 10.30am at get-in (with your shuttle sorted). 6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19. 7. Weather : There is rain due Friday and early Saturday, so something will be running. Grade 2/3. 8. Anything else : No shuttle allowed in cars (apart from someone you live with). Please arrange your own shuttle (bike/partner/run/walk). Get-in and get-out will be decided Friday night or early Saturday morning (by 8am). My standard shuttle routine is to drop boat and kit off (locked), drive to get-out with bicycle, ride back, lock up bicycle, paddle to car. If you don't mind a walk (or run), load your dry kit into your boat, get changed at the get-out, lock up your boat and walk back. I will have a large lock with me and am happy to lock up other peoples boats and bikes. Contact me beforehand to coordinate. Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking during lockdown. Note: this is a peer trip. I'm happy to arrange and co-ordinate, but I will most likely not be the most experienced kayaker on the water. Make sure you are fully self sufficient. Please RSVP on the calendar by Friday evening. Check on WhatsApp Saturday morning first thing to ensure suitable river levels and the trip is running.
  15. BE COVID AWARE PEER trip Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461 1. Trip type: River 2. Level of ability : intermediate 3. Date: 13/06/2020 4. Venue : River Wharfe 5. Meet location / time : 10.30am, Conistone, with boat and kit, on the bridge (https://goo.gl/maps/t81FLcAg18gZ78r27). Get out is on the green at Burnsall. 6. Meet to share lifts at: No lift share due to Covid-19. 7. Weather : Due to be mild and overcast. Has been a lot of rain Thursday/Friday, river level currently on mid (11am Friday), more rain forecast, but likely drop fast overnight. Expecting levels low-mid. Wharfe can be paddled anything above 0.4. 8. Anything else : No shuttle allowed in cars (apart from someone you live with). Please arrange your own shuttle (bike/partner/run/walk). As a suggestion, you can leave boats fairly safely behind the wall at the get in at Conistone, then drop the car (or bike) off at Burnsall and ride/drive back, whichever way you choose to do it, please be at the get in at 10:30 with shuttle arranged. Another option is put dry kit in your boat, and get out at Linton Falls and walk back (locking the boat up there). It's 5.5km walk back along the river. If you like a good walk, it's a 9km walk from Burnsall (all along the river). Bus services are currently suspended. I'm not expecting it to be busy at Burnsall due to poor weather. Conistone isn't a popular tourist spot and is little known. There's quite a bit of parking on the bridge and you're unlikely to cause any offence (it's outside the village and not blocking anyone). I will have a large lock with me and am happy to lock up other peoples boats and bikes. Contact me before hand to coordinate.
  16. Saturday Eve update: rain forecast overnight due to clear by the morning. Clough may rise enough, otherwise either alternatives would be fine. Not expecting high water.
  17. 1.Peer River Trip 2.Intermediate/Advanced 3. Sunday 1st March 4. Depending on water levels, either the Lune, Lower Rawthey or Clough. Expecting some rain late today and early morning. Backup plan is the Lune, we can decide at the meeting point. 5. Trips may be cancelled or rearranged at short notice depending upon weather, and the preferences of those paddling. 6. Meet at Settlebeck Bridge, in Sedbergh 10:30am, heading East out of Sedbergh on the A684. Google pin here https://goo.gl/maps/89DtweWe2MZ7R72x5. To avoid a wasted journey, please ensure the trip coordinator knows you plan to attend. 7. Coordinator Simon Lerpiniere (Simon L). I am very happy to co-ordinate this trip, choose a river, set up put ins and take outs, but I will not be the leader. It is very likely that there will be other very competent paddlers on trip, many have more experience than myself. Just to emphasise this is not a "formal LCC trip". This is a group of mates heading out for a paddle and some fun. If you want to join us you are most welcome. Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip only.
