if weather is wild we will cancel this trip - we are looking for some pleasant weather - mild, dry is hot and a quiet breeze behind us!
If I can recruit a further leader we will have a second group of x6 paddlers - but initially a single group of x4 participants and one leader.

1. Trip type:  Sea - 2 day coastal trip (24km & 15km) with overnight camp & shuttles.
2. Level of ability : Intermediate
3. Date: Sat 3rd Oct - Sun 4th Oct
4. Venue : Flamborough -> Filey / Filey -> Scarbourgh
5. Meet location / time : The plan is to meet at a local campsite (to be arranged) on Friday evening & discuss/impliment shuttle arrangements to allow us to be on the water at Flamborough South Landing around 0800 on Saturday. This will allow us to round the headland during the first hour of the north going stream & hopefully not be hindered by an eddy that may form beyond it.
6. Meet to share lifts at: no lift share due to Covid.
7. Anything else:
Some parts of this trip will involve exposed sections of coastline with some tidal movement and no escape routes. Where landing is possible there is a chance of needing to come through surf.
I expect the format to be 2x day trips covering a continuous linear distance facilitated by shuttles. The overnight stay will be at a local campsite as I'm not familiar with this section of coastline & don't know how feisable a wildcamp would be. The plus side of that is we'll probably be paddling lightly loaded boats which may allow the opportunity to play in the surf & enjoy some rockhopping en-route as & where conditions are suitable.
Day 1: Flamborough to Filey (24km). Spring tide with a max rate of 2-3kn at the headland.
Day 2: Filey to Scarborough (15km). A more civilised start is possible today. Max rate 2kn at Filey Brigg.
Please send me a whatsapp (07730411538) once you've RSVP'd so that I can communicate with you all as a group to confirm or adjust arrangements.
All weather dependent etc. see wind and waves forecast here:

Please read notes re trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/
Make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking during lockdown.
Note: this is a peer trip.  I'm happy to arrange and co-ordinate, but I will most likely not be the most experienced kayaker on the water.  Make sure you are fully self sufficient.

Official trip

The final session, let's take a moment...
By now we should all be well enough aquatinted with the bow of our boats to never have to gaze longingly into it again. Our impressions of the Duracell bunny will be purely for humour rather than defacto.
To make super sure though, session 4 will be a consolidation of what we've learned over the last 3 weeks. Challenges will be offered for the bold but just a cool river trip for the content.
Hopefully all attendees have enjoyed the course and look forward to paddling in the future.
Sessions will be limited to 6 paddlers  because of Covid restrictions but don't be disheartened if the R.S.V.P limit has been reached. Send us a message on 07927199545 and with enough interest we will be able to assign additional coaches to take another group or 2.
Equipment is available for hire if required. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.

Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers.  These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one.
Background: A great way to learn and improve skills is via focused and structured practice.  I'm working towards my white water kayak leader assessment having completed my training last year.  Including structured and fun sessions on the water is part of the award, but also great for your and my skills too.
The aim of this session will be picking, and hitting lines.  We will be assessing each rapid from the bank, talking about it, choosing a line, trying to hit it, then getting out and trying again.  We'll pick a short-ish section of river with easy options for retries on the various rapids.  You might be aiming for the easiest possible line, or the hardest possible line.  We may even pick out some challenges if it's too easy!
1. Trip type : River
2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers).
3. Date : 10/10/2020
4. Venue : TBC, by Saturday morning 8am
5. Meet location / time : 10.00am
6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19.

8. Anything else : Running shuttles with mitigation, so please bring your own face covering or organise your own shuttle.
Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking and Covid-19.  Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/

PEER trip
Open to all improver & intermediate paddlers.  These trips are not a series, you don't need to have attended the past one.
Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461
Background: I'm working towards my white water kayak leader assessment having completed my training last year.  Encouraging members of the group make decisions on the water is a key part to the award.
The aim of this session is just working our way down the river.  You will be deciding where we stop, whether we should inspect, which channel we should take.  It's all part of naturally being part of a functioning peer group on the water.
1. Trip type : River
2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers).
3. Date : 31/10/2020
4. Venue : TBC, by Saturday morning 8am.  Will be a longer section of water to enable a full river trip.  Bring sandwiches!
5. Meet location / time : 10.00am
6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19.
7. Weather : We'll ideally have a bit of water for this to give us a different river option.
Note: this is a peer trip.  I am happy to co-ordinate and organise the trip, but we are all responsible for each other on the water.
Please RSVP on the calendar by Friday evening.  Check on WhatsApp Saturday morning first thing to ensure suitable river levels and the trip is running.

Reluctantly this trip is CANCELLED.
Current rainfall and forecast for Saturday would make this far from an Easy Rivers trip.

1. Trip type : Easy River (Open boats or river kayaks) - The plan is to explore the River Ure in a couple of trips. The first is Wensley to Masham; about 25 K of Grade 1/2 with one Grade 3 rapid (Squirrel Bank; portageable)
A shorter alternative might be to stop at the bridge above Squirrel Bank (192 860).
2. Level of ability : Improver or better.
3. Date : 31/10/2020
4. Venue : Middleham Bridge 119 888, south of Leyburn.
5. Meet location / time : 10.00am
6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19.
7. Weather : We need at least a little bit of water, and not a lot of wind and no further lockdowns!
8. Anything else : Running shuttles with mitigation, so please bring your own face covering. Trip will be lead by Mike Sunderland
Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding canoeing and Covid-19.  Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/
