  1. WWSR – Boat to Swimmer Rescues + Recovering Pinned Equipment 1. Level of ability: All welcome 2. Venue: Devil's Bridge Kirkby Lonsdale 3. Time: meet at 09:30. Session 10:00-14:00. 4. Lift share: No lift share - static venue. 5. Please wear adequate clothing and dry suits or dry separates. 6. Please wear appropriate footwear – in addition to boats we will be working along the banks - Helmets and BAs must be worn at all times. 7. Please bring appropriate food and warm drinks. 8. There will be a theory session - you might want to consider an extra waterproof to trap heat. Skills to include (in brief): Safe Recovery of Swimmer.. Approaching a Swimmer. Where they should hold the boat. Where to take them. Recovering Boats from Entrapment Although these days are, I hope, very useful and the exchange of ideas very productive they are no substitute for attending a course provided by a qualified Coach who has years of experience in providing safety courses and through their position is constantly kept up to to date with current best practice. I am hoping that days like these will encourage people to engage with further education from professional Coaches. The breadth of experience and expertise demonstrated by participants who have attended previous courses should very easily convert to British Canoeing approved qualifications.

We can discuss any questions about the kit required and /or alternatively……. https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/whitewater-safety/ There is a link at the bottom of the page for Kit. There are other useful links, all of which are recommended reading. Could I also draw your attention to ……. https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/risk-assessments-for-river-trips/ Any river in flood or spate is considered to be out with the club remit due to the additional risk of rescuing as swimmer and the extra difficulties rescuing kit. Similarly any rapid or fall for which adequate safety can be not set is considered out with the club remit. Attendees will be added to a WhatsApp group for the event. Please check WhatsApp and the calendar to confirm location, suitable river levels, and that the trip is running. Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip please.
  5. Thanks George - will keep going and we can meet up one day
  6. If people wish to paddle rivers towards the top end of the remit ie Grade 2 (3) with the emphasis on Grade 3 then I am sure we can set up another mid week trip. However - needless to say depends on water levels !!

Thursday 27th May 3. Starting --- High Water of 9.7m at 12.20 (Liverpool!) so aim to be on the water and paddle from Arnside promenade at 08.20 4. 14. An update There were some extremely inconvenient road works just past Newby Bridge (if coming from Kendal) - long delays. They seemed to switch them on at 09:00 Talking to Anthony he suggested meeting at 09:30. The road works may of course be gone by then, but it would be better to play safe I can't make it on Saturday but I am sure you will have a good time

They seemed to switch them on at 09:00 Talking to Anthony he suggested meeting at 09:30 at the put in for the Leven . The road works may of course be gone by then, but it would be better to play safe https://www.streetmap.co.uk/map?x=336788&y=486445&z=115&sv=336788,486445&st=4&ar=Y,y&mapp=map&searchp=ids&dn=795&lm=0 I can't make it on Saturday but I am sure you will have a good time. The area of the Leven should be OK even with low water - it was OK on Thursday Brian Border Kayaks have kindly organised the use of Wavesports' demo fleet. This includes the Phoenix, their premier creek boat, a full range of Diesels, which are general purpose river runners, a full range of Project X playboats and a selection of Fuse river play. The day will be held at the Leven. Anthony has the following boats in the demo fleet Wave Sport Diesel 60 Whiteout Wave Sport Diesel 70 Whiteout Wave Sport Diesel 80 Whiteout Wave Sport Fuse 35 (junior boat) Wave Sport Fuse 48 Wave Sport Fuse 56 Wave Sport Project X 48 Wave Sport Project X 56 Wave Sport Project X 64 Wave Sport Phoenix And if needed i can get hold of the Wave sport Ethos 9 & 10 Covid regs etc mean that groups are limited to six, so including Anthony five places are available for each session. It will depend on numbers but we thought we could run two session each day, one on Thursday and more on Saturday.
