Lakeland Canoe Club

Intermediate Trip

Event details

I would like to arrange a fairly regular midweek feature within the calendar where a group of four, five including myself can run some rivers that fall within the remit of British Canoeing Moderate Water definitions

The sort of rivers I had in mind fall within the remit of no higher than Grade 2(3)

I have changed the suitability of the trip towards the top end of the remit in a hope of appealing to Intermediate or above paddlers

1. Event co-ordinator: Brian Clough

2. Trip Leader: Brian Clough

3. Trip type: River

4. Level of Ability : Beginner / Improver

5. Date: 18/11/2021

6. Venue/Meet/Share Lifts: To Be Decided – We could set up a What’s App Group nearer the time

7. Anything else:

Please read notes regarding river trips here…….

https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/

I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water.

Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. We can discuss any questions about the kit required and /or alternatively…….

https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/whitewater-safety/

There is a link at the bottom of the page for Kit. There are other useful links, all of which are recommended reading.

Could I also draw your attention to …….

https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/risk-assessments-for-river-trips/

Any river in flood or spate is considered to be out with the club remit due to the additional risk of rescuing as swimmer and the extra difficulties rescuing kit. Similarly any rapid or fall for which adequate safety can be not set is considered out with the club remit.

Attendees will be added to a WhatsApp group for the event. Please check WhatsApp and the calendar to confirm location, suitable river levels, and that the trip is running.

Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip please.

If people wish to paddle rivers towards the top end of the remit ie Grade 2 (3) with the emphasis on Grade 3 then I am sure we can set up another mid week trip.

However - needless to say depends on water levels !!

Hi Brian, it would have been great if I could have joined you on the 18th, unfortunately I am working away and cannot make this date however I am good for the following week if you are planning one then. I am keen to develop my river skills having been out with Mike Hayward on beginners events on a number of occasions now and wish to develop further at the level you are offering. I would wish to attend a number of your sessions over the coming months. Unfortunately I am working away quite a bit at the moment and will have to attend those I can otherwise I would be a regular attender, all I can assure you is I will do my best.

Mike suggests I can now attend easy river sessions, I guess you could asses me when I do get to go out with you.

Regards, George

That's great Brian, thank you, if it wasn't for sessions like this I don't know how one is likely develop. Its a pity more are not supporting your sessions I believe there are quite a few in the club that are at the early stages. Anything planned for next week? I could make next week apart from Monday and Tuesday. I am hoping to go on the Sea Kayaking on Tuesday and tied up most of Monday otherwise OK. Cheers George
