We will be considering and practicing the skills needed to be a 'safer river paddler' The list of skills is below. when you arrive please have an idea which of these skills you would like to be introduced to or practice. There will be a need to swim to practice some of these skills so come dressed appropriately and have plenty of warm clothes for afterwards. Bring your own kayak and kit or use club kit for free for this session. Exit form kayak in event of capsize. Swim to shore with kayak and paddle. Know how to be rescued by a throwline. I know when to do active and passive swimming. I can do a swimming self rescue using a paddle to help. I can do and kayak to swimmer rescue as swimmer or rescuer. I can do shouting rescue. I can do reaching rescue. I can do throw line rescue. I can do a shallow water wading rescue. I can recover a floating kayak and paddle. I can assist another when recovering a floating kayak and paddle. I know how to position a kayak for rescues. I know how to protect rapids. I can do eskimo rescues as rescuer and rescue. We will take the ongoing tide from Arnside at 9.00 and take a gentle paddle into the Bay. At a suitable point about 10.45 we will disembark and enjoy a natter, brew and snack. HW is at 14.03 9.21m so we can expect the incoming tide to reach us about midday for the return to Arnside. Those that are interested can continue up the estuary before returning to Arnside at about 15.30. This is all subject suitable weather. We will paddle out from Canal foot meet the incoming tide and you can finish at Canal foot OR continue to car park at Greenodd an additional 6km Sea kayak preferred. 2 Tuesday 27th April 3. Starting --- High Water is 10.03m at 13.15 so aim to be on the water and paddle from Canal Foot at 09.00 a.m. 4. Wind looks favourable Will confirm trip here by 7pm the evening before. https://bigsalty.com/en/weather/forecast/173/ We are setting off at 09.30 with the aim of following the river channel as far as we can towards Morecambe, then returning with the incoming tide. Likely following the bore wave in. May have issues with shallow water, meandering channels and dead ends. For those with advanced skills or intermediate if you don't wish to surf the bore wave. Bring food drink etc but be prepared to consume it from the kayak as we won't be able to stop on the incoming tide.     From 5th January 2021 LCC has had to suspend the club calendar. This is due to local national Covid lockdown. The situation will be kept under reviewed, we will reopen the calendar and usual activity as soon as we can. DO feel free to add new vent to the calendar for dates after 28th March.
