    Due to adverse weather forecast, I am cancelling the Kirkcudbright/Fleet Islands Trip - HEAVY rain all day and strong winds. an alternative trip for beginners upwards will be on Tuesday 29 September - dryer day and low winds. Circumnavigation of THIRLMERE - details out shortly and priority to those booked for Kirkcudbright, if you are keen for a casual paddle. OFFICIAL trip 0. event co-ordinator: Mike Sunderland 1. Trip type: sea kayak journey with x1 night wild camp 2. Level of ability : improver / intermediate / advanced - this trip is not a beginners trip, but targeted at improvers upwards. 3. If I can recruit a further leader we will have a second group of x6 paddlers - but initially a single group of x4 participants and one leader. Meet location / time: meet 9.30am Knott End-On-Sea - opposite Fleetwood - Public car park, off Quail Rd, grid ref: 346 485 6. Meet to share lifts at: No lift share due to covid Likely to be a shuttle required or wait til after 3.15pm, high tide and return on Ebbing tide. Face masks essential, windows open 7. Anything else: Groups of 5 paddlers welcome - self sufficient - food/drink/spare clothing and kitted up for a day trip in a sea kayak Tom Peacock has agreed to CO-LEAD, so we can offer more places to members, now a max of 11 places. Venue : Killington Road Bridge (over the Lune) M6 Jnct 37-Sedberg Rd-2nd R at foot of steep hill (R at the Black Horse House)-K Rd Bridge 1 mile down narrow Rd-Park on L side bridge or layby on L 5. Meet location / time : 17.00 - changed and ready to paddle 6. Meet to share lifts at: ParknPlay - no shuttles required 7. Please check this site on Tuesday evening after 7pm - the trip is heavily weather dependant, and November is a challenging month for sea kayakers! 3. Starting from Askham Pier around 11:15am 4. Meet at Askham Pier, ready to be on the water by 11:15am 5 Trip leader Mike Sunderland - coaching.cumbria@britishcanoeing.org.uk 6. Other notes; this trip takes advantage of the 9.3m HW at 13:43 to travel up the estuary,ideally as far as Duddon Bridge If the weather is kind, that should give us time to get up to Duddon bridge and back before 16:00. (Possibly with a pint in the Prince of Wales at Foxfield). Suitable for all.. Mike Sunderland (L5 coach and sea kayak leader) will update the TBC by 7pm the evening before the paddle.
  8. "Whatever fits the weather, water and members needs" You must have your own kit. 1. This is a rver trip, exploring the Upper Kent, from Kentmere down to Burneside. (But see Notes below). 2. Please check details after 7pm on Monday evening 3. Starting from Wilf's cafe, Staveley Mill Yard. 4. Meet at Wilfs on Tuesday 10am. (The cafe opens from around 9am, and does good breakfasts) 5 Trip leader Mike Sunderland - coaching.cumbria@britishcanoeing.org.uk 6. Notes - the Upper Kent is mostly Grade 2, with some Grade 3. (Grade 2/3 from Kentmers down to Staveley, Grade 2 from Staveley to Burneside). There are some short grade 4 sections, and some weirs which we will almost certainly portage. The river requires medium to high levels or it becomes a bit of a scrape; hence we'll meet at Wilfs, assess conditions and decide what's paddleable. Sign up on website and please e-mail if you are planning to paddle Mike Sunderland (L5 coach and sea kayak leader) will update by 7pm the evening before the paddle.
  9. "Whatever fits the weather, water and members needs" As it is half-term, the Mid-Week paddling slot has been co-opted by Cumbria Canoeists to encourage Women and Juniors into the sport. They are planning an Introduction to River Paddling, on gently moving water, for the afternoon of Wed 25th October, for Women and Juniors (including boys 14 years and under). We shall meet at 11.30 am at Killington Sailing Club, near M6 J 37, to sort out boats, kit etc., and plan to paddle on a quiet section of the River Lune. " They have some places* still available (for 2 adults and two juniors). *Please book through Cumbria Canoeists Leaders for the event are Mike Sunderland and Fran Humpherson (Coaches),

Starting from Mike's house after lunch on Wednesday. [Castle House, Hartley, Kirkby Stephen, CA174JJ]. Approximately 1 hour's drive across to WW centre. 4. The course is open from 16:00 to 20:00 5 Trip leader Mike Sunderland - coaching.cumbria@britishcanoeing.org.uk 6. Other notes - suitable for all. N.B. Trip planned assuming there will be no rain and the rivers will be empty. If it does rain, we may decide to meet on "real" whitewater instead, so key that you check the calendar the night before.
