    Cancelled due to tier 4 Covid restrictions BE COVID AWARE “Fix the Firth” Solway Coast Beach/Bank Cleans. Covid-19: We work 2+ metres apart. The Coronavirus Act 2020, Amendment 4 of 14/9/20 allows work & voluntary service anywhere & by any number of people. Our work cannot be carried out at home, is entirely outdoors & avoids public transport. Past events: from August 2017 to mid-November 2020 we have held 180 beach cleans & collected 3755 bags of rubbish + tyres, fish crates, heavy rope etc. Allerdale Borough Council's contractors Tivoli took these to the Hespin Wood Mechanical Biological Treatment Plant which claims to recycle 80% of North Cumbria's waste. LCC call for members to join an organised Estuary/River litter pick - a RIVER BANK CLEAN UP Meet: Rockcliff - riverside @ 10am, joining the clean up team. They may request we bring our kayaks, to cross to the opposite banks, which are normally not accessible. Date: Tuesday 5th January 2021 - 10am til 2.00pm Meet/park: 10am ROCKCLIFFE, Village on Marsh View, postcode CA6 4AD, at the end of School Lane, a sharp & narrow bend off Rockcliffe's Main Street between the large church with a spire & the modern primary school. Shuttles: NOT required Numbers: sticking to the RULE of 2 - however I will open up the places to 2 planning to have 2 reserves, who can quickly replace any members who have to cancel Equipment: Fave Mask, hand sanitiser, Gloves, Wellies and bin liners required & Dogs r OK. Kayaks: it is likely John will request we cross the Eden in our kayaks, to clear the Banks his team do not have easy access to, so I will confirm if this is required.     Evening mid-wk paddlers - Julian, Rob, Derek, Maggie and Chris - I hope you are all set for the morning all ready for a leisurely start - 11am at brick lane parking area. However, the access road to brick lane, besides the sports centre is closed! SO From the Kendal direction: left at the main traffic lights - as normal 3rd left? off the main drag is MORCAMBE Rd Turn Right onto BRICK Lane somewhere towards the end of Morcambe Rd. carry onto the end of Brick Lane to find the dog walkers parking area. see you all in the morning - look forward to a swift morning paddle with the tide and the wind and a more challenging return against the wind, which is picking up, with a later return time than 2.45, due to tide differences! kind regards Mike Sunderland 0797 5946 312 if you need to chat about tomorrow

    Due to adverse weather forecast, I am cancelling the Kirkcudbright/Fleet Islands Trip - HEAVY rain all day and strong winds. an alternative trip for beginners upwards will be on Tuesday 29 September - dryer day and low winds. Circumnavigation of THIRLMERE - details out shortly and priority to those booked for Kirkcudbright, if you are keen for a casual paddle. OFFICIAL trip 0. event co-ordinator: Mike Sunderland 1. Trip type: sea kayak journey with x1 night wild camp 2. Level of ability : improver / intermediate / advanced - this trip is not a beginners trip, but targeted at improvers upwards. 3. Date: Wednesday 30 September to Thursday 1 October 4. Venue : Kirkcudbright harbour to Gatehouse of Fleet - Max 25K 5. Meet location / time : 10am Kirkcudbright harbour 6. Meet to share lifts at: 7. If I can recruit a further leader we will have a second group of x6 paddlers - but initially a single group of x4 participants and one leader. Please check this site on Tuesday evening after 7pm - the trip is heavily weather dependant, and November is a challenging month for sea kayakers! 3. Starting from Askham Pier around 11:15am 4. Meet at Askham Pier, ready to be on the water by 11:15am 5 Trip leader Mike Sunderland - coaching.cumbria@britishcanoeing.org.uk 6. Other notes; this trip takes advantage of the 9.3m HW at 13:43 to travel up the estuary,ideally as far as Duddon Bridge If the weather is kind, that should give us time to get up to Duddon bridge and back before 16:00. (Possibly with a pint in the Prince of Wales at Foxfield). Suitable for all.. Mike Sunderland (L5 coach and sea kayak leader) will update the TBC by 7pm the evening before the paddle.
