The meet will focus on rescues, paddling in windy conditions , rafting open boats and towing . The session will involve getting in the lake , therefore a dry suit and helmet is required . The focus will be on paddling as a single paddler .

    Hi As we start October the rains have started!!! If you're still interested in this cross Scotland trip, then I suggest we meet as posted at 7.30 at the Tap in Kendal on the 3 Oct. I can then outline what is involved, discuss kit and catering and confirm the arrangements for the shuttle. Venue : Devils Bridge - Kirby Longsdale 7. Meet location / time : 9.30 The aim of this practical work shop is to discuss with open boat leaders , and potential assistants the various practical rescue skill techniques that leaders may have in their tool box . The session will follow the following format : 1. Setting up the boat for lake and river trips with rescue in mind. 2. Rescuing others from the lake or river . 3. Self rescue both lake and river . 4. rescue scenario's we may encounter ; towing a boat on a river , pinned open boat . The nature of the event means that if will be wet ! so a dry suit would be required . The session will be limited to 6 paddlers and each participant should bring emergency kit they normally use and a helmet The session will follow a workshop style with participants happy to be involved in scenario based training and discussion.

  11. Hi At the moment we only have 2 people signed up for this trip . You will have noticed that the river levels are extremely low at the moment , particularly for open boats . Can I suggest we cancel this trip, and I will rearrange when the river levels have risen . Please can you contact me to confirm you have received this message. Rob G
  12. From 2nd December. The rule of 6 will once again apply to meeting outdoors - for recreational paddling with friends and family, and for groups of coaching and leader ratios of 1:5. BE COVID AWARE PEER trip Organiser : Rob Gregory All those attending please check the level of equipment and personal gear required ahead of the day (see our website if not sure), any queries please mention on the whats app group. 1. Trip type : River Tees Barnard Castle - Winston ( put in below Abbey Rapids ) 2. Level of ability : Intermediate: aiming for Grade 3 able to manoeuvre canoe and self rescue boat. 3. Date : 20/1/2021 4. Venue : TBC, by Wednesday morning 8am. 5. Trip may be cancelled or rearranged at short notice depending upon weather, and the preferences of those paddling. 6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19 7. Weather : completely water and circumstance dependant 8. Anything else : Running shuttles with mitigation, so please bring your own face covering or organise your own shuttle. Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking and Covid-19.
