This is three individual day trips in the usually sheltered beautiful Firth of Clyde at Largs. Options for paddling depending on weather include: - coastal paddling south past the old sea plane hanger, the defunct coal depot to Hunterston. Or north to the famous Wemyss Bay station stopping for an ice cream at Nardinis in Largs, - paddle down to Horse Isle near Ardrossan from Seamill or Portencross to see the nature reserve, - circumnavigation of Wee Cumbrae from Portencross Castle or Fairlie. This involves a 1.5 km crossing. We can visit the old lighthouse and experience magnificent views over to Arran and the Cowal peninsula - circumnavigation of Big Cumbrae from Largs Marina. This involves a 1.5 km crossing followed by 15km round. A visit to the seaside town of Millport is a must. Porpoises, common seals and Kylie the dolphin likely to be seen, We’ll be centre based at campsite near Largs, by Largs Marina. 1. Event co-ordinator Annette Morris 2. Trip Leaders: Annette Morris and John Soady 3. Trip type: Coastal sea kayaking and short crossings to islands 4. Level of ability: Improver or better 5. Date: Monday 13th May to Thursday 16th May 6. Venue: Kelburn Castle Campsite and Largs Marina. Accommodation: Camping at Kelburn Castle campsite, opposite Largs Marina. I've booked pitches. £10 per night for tent & more for camper with hook up. https://www.kelburnestate.com/camping/ B&B nearby if you prefer more comfort. Or free camping in Motorhome at Largs Marina. 7. We will meet midday Monday at the campsite and then make our way to Largs Marina between 13.00 and 13.30, to be on the water about 14:00. We will finish kayaking later on Wednesday. 8. Travel: 2.5 hours from Carlisle to Largs 9. Sea kayaks only Unless very windy there should be somewhere we can paddle. Bring your walking shoes in case too windy to paddle each day. Please read notes re trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water. Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending.

The plan is to circumnavigate Isle of Bute, Argyll, in 3.5 days (10 to 12 miles a day with lots of get outs) in usually sheltered water. The trip is suitable for Improvers, because we'll avoid crossing the Clyde, by starting at the north end of Bute. I will select direction and distances depending on weather and tide. Also if windy we may select a different route, as it can get quite bumpy in the south of Glen Callum. There will be opportunities to explore Bute and Inchmarnock by foot and also paddle further into the sea lochs. Wildlife, scenery and beaches are spectacular - lots of variety. I know of several perfect wild campsites plus the kayakers campsite in the North. We may visit a couple of my favourite cafes too! Check out Roddy's kayaking guide to Bute. https://www.ukseakayakguidebook.co.uk/Bute Guide V1 .pdf Aim is to meet at Colintraive ferry by about 1pm, park cars on Bute by ferry, and then we're off! We should finish mid afternoon on Sunday 19th. If we get another Leader we'll add a couple of spaces. 1. Event co-ordinator Annette Morris 2. Trip Leaders: Annette Morris and John Soady. 3. Trip type: Coastal sea kayaking with short crossing to Inchmarnock 4. Level of ability: Improver or better 5. Date: Thursday 16 May 2024 to Sunday 19th May 6. Venue: Isle of Bute 7. Meet location/time: Colintraive, Thursday afternoon. 1pm 8. Travel: 2 hours from Carlisle to Gourock Dunooon Ferry. 15mins on ferry then 30 mins drive to Bute north ferry. Return Sunday afternoon. 9. Sea kayaks Any questions WhasApp me. Please read notes re trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. Update: Weather looking fine on Friday 17th for our Ravenglass paddle. See below for details. 1. Event co-ordinator: Annette Morris 2. Trip Leader/s: Alistair Hornsby and Annette Morris 3. Trip type: Sea kayak - estuary 4. Level of ability : Improver or better 5. Date: Friday 17th November 2023 6. Venue : Ravenglass lagoon and estuaries 7. Meet location / time : meet at Ravenglass south beach at 10.45am (drive through the village down slip onto the beach) to unload. http://streetmap.co.uk/map?X=308420&Y=496180&A=Y&Z=115 Return the cars to the pay and display carpark (as they may get flooded if left on beach). Parking costs £5.50 for the day. http://streetmap.co.uk/map?X=308496&Y=496459&A=Y&Z=115. Aim to be on the beach ready to go for 11:30 8. No shuttle but we will have to move the cars to car park from beach (about 500 meters) 9. Anything else: We will have a sociable paddle with a picnic - don't forget your butties. We should see some wintering birds. I’ll bring some Ravenglass Seaquest maps for information. We will select the estuaries to go up depending on wind direction. Currently thinking of both the Irt and Mite. We will have the opportunity to practice some ferry gliding in moving water. This trip will be about 4 hours with tidal assistance for most of the way. This trip is weather dependant so if the forecast is unfavourable (greater than 20mph gusts) the trip may be rescheduled. I will post the decision on here the night before at latest. On Friday 17th November: Tide height at Tarn Point is 7.7 meters at 13.26 Aim to be on the water at 11:30 (about 2 hours before high tide) We will arrive back at Ravenglass before 15:30 (little water and lots of mud 2 hours after high tide) Sea kayaks / Touring Kayaks. Please read notes re trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/ We are am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water. Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. We are happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip for 10 paddlers and more if I have another leader. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for one another’s safety on the water. Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip – plenty of food and drink to share.
