Phil Clayton is attending River Kent Clean-up
-
untilIn association with British Canoeing and the Clean River Kent Campaign, we are planning a litter-pick along the banks of the Kent, with walkers on the banks, and a contingent of paddlers on the water. This will be the third year we’ve done this, and it’s surprisingly good fun, especially if you start with a breakfast in Staveley Mill Yard, and with the possibility of lunch in the beer hall afterwards! Details tbc but in essence; 1 Meet at Staveley village hall at 10 for a safety briefing, (Leave cars in Burneside and shuttle back up). 2 A leisurely paddle down the Kent, (Grade 1/2 ), bagging up rubbish. Alternatively, you are welcome to just walk down the river bank and enjoy the sunshine as you fill your bag. 3 Get out at Burneside, photo-opportunity, and then home. All equipment provided, just bring your boat and paddling kit. Organised by Natalie Thorp and Phil Clayton, so please speak to either of us if you want to know more.

untilThis is a joint event between Lakeland Canoe Club, Cumbria Canoeists, Save Our Rivers and the Clean River Kent Campaign group. It's a follow-up to the successful river clean-up we did in November 2022 in the centre of Kendal. Three main reasons for doing this; It's an opportunity to make a practical difference to a huge problem It's a chance to build bridges with other river users, including walkers, anglers and swimmers It improves the visibility of the club, and paddling as a sport, within our community Essentially this is just a paddle along the Kent from Staveley to Burneside, collecting litter and rubbish as we go. There's likely to be a kick-off meeting in Staveley, with an update on the work the Clean River Kent Campaign are doing to improve water quality along the whole River Kent catchment. All litter-pickers (kayakers, canoeists and walkers), meet at Staveley Pavilion at 10am on the 2nd. Collect bags and litter pickers, aim to set off down river about 10:30+ Meet at the Millenium Green, Burneside about 12:30 Bag up rubbish for disposal, take photos, cakes and drinks. Finish by about 1:30 Contact me on 0785 0202405 if you'd like to know more.

untilThis is an opportunity for members to put something back into the local community....by removing rubbish from the River Kent! Details will be confirmed once we know how many people are available to help, but the basics; Meet at the Riverside kiosk at 11:00am. Cars can be parked in Kirkby Kendal School car park if you want to shuttle back up Collect gloves, bags and sanitiser. Make your way down the river collecting rubbish as you can. (On foot, by kayak, by canoe). Meet at (tbc) to bag all the rubbish, take photos, and bask in our success. N.B. If you would like to clean up a different stretch of River, or do a different time, or even a different day, that's absolutely fine; it's about doing good, and getting publicity for the cause, so if you have better ideas, please speak to Phil Clayton, (0785 0202405) Change of date! We have brought forward the clean-up to join the Clean River Kent Campaign's clean up.

Date changed at request of participants!
