6. Location : West coast of Scotland, meet at Loch Feochan south of Oban and plan to paddle south, keeping flexible to suit the weather conditions
7. You will need to be equipped for wild camping , potentially carrying food and water for four days .

For intermediate paddlers : whilst this is not intended to be an advanced trip, I need trip members to be comfortable if the conditions turn rough, windy or both! We will likely be paddling stretches without shelter from the Atlantic , up to 25km per day for a number of consecutive days . Be prepared and equipped to wild camp for 3-4 nights .
Plan A is to go to the far north west, north of Torridon , to visit the gems. Options are : Loch Laxford, Handa Island, Edrachillis Bay, Point of Stoer, LochInver, Summer Isles and various options on Wester Ross including Gruinard Island where we can catch a dose of anthrax !
Plan B (if the weather doesn't behave) will be any other decent Scottish location

VHF Radio course run for LCC by the Bay Sea School, Morecambe
A 1-day RYA course and assessment for anyone who uses a marine band VHF radio. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control a VHF radio whether fixed or handheld. Your licence is then valid for life.
The course pack includes the RYA's "VHF Radio Handbook", which we will post to you.
Please note, there is a separate exam & certification fee of £70 payable to the RYA.
Three hours of pre-course study required. The course itself is a full day on Saturday 11th May , with the assessment on Sunday 12th May . Exact times to be confirmed.
Cost of course £103.50 . LCC will pay 50% of this course fee for eligible club members (ie members who have been active in the club throughout the last 12 months). The £70 exam and certification fee to RYA is payable in full by course participants.

It's time to start looking forward to summer adventures . A practical session looking at packing your boat - not as easy as you might think ! What to take, what to carry it in, what goes into which hatch and in which order , is there room to pack your bedtime teddy? ...Come and learn/share some slick hints from experienced club leaders. Also a chat and demo about camping stoves - their relative merits and disadvantages , and tips on what to buy if you are getting into kayak camping for the first time. A good chance to come out of winter hibernation and refresh your enthusiasm for the holy grail of the perfect camp experience .

Apologies to all, but it has been decided to cancel the Mince Pie Paddle on Saturday due to the wind and rain forecasts . We hope that eating your mince pies in front of a cosy fire instead won't be too much of a hardship . We will have to make it an Easter Egg Paddle instead.
