This is a joint event between Lakeland Canoe Club, Cumbria Canoeists, Save Our Rivers and the Clean River Kent Campaign group.
It's a follow-up to the successful river clean-up we did in November 2022 in the centre of Kendal. Three main reasons for doing this;
It's an opportunity to make a practical difference to a huge problem
It's a chance to build bridges with other river users, including walkers, anglers and swimmers
It improves the visibility of the club, and paddling as a sport, within our community
Essentially this is just a paddle along the Kent from Staveley to Burneside, collecting litter and rubbish as we go. There's likely to be a kick-off meeting in Staveley, with an update on the work the Clean River Kent Campaign are doing to improve water quality along the whole River Kent catchment.
All litter-pickers (kayakers, canoeists and walkers), meet at Staveley Pavilion at 10am on the 2nd.
Collect bags and litter pickers, aim to set off down river about 10:30+
Meet at the Millenium Green, Burneside about 12:30
Bag up rubbish for disposal, take photos, cakes and drinks. Finish by about 1:30
