Isle of Arran - day paddles

Event details

Arran again! Day paddles about 15km, which can be lengthened or shortened. Suitable for Improvers and above.

Seal Shore Campsite at Kildonan will be our base for three nights.   (£11 pppn).  It's a beautiful campsite on waters edge overlooking Pladda and Ailsa Craig. Good facilities including a common room!

The aim is to have safe paddles in beautiful scenery and observe the amazing nature Arran has to offer.  Arran's wild life is wonderful - porpoises, dolphins, eagles, otters  gannets, basking sharks, red deer, gannets, etc.. Can't promise seeing all of the above, but we will see lots of geology!

Weather permitting we'll paddle Tuesday afternoon/early evening, all day Wednesday and Thursday, and Friday morning.

Possible paddles include:

-   1km crossing to Holy Isle from Lamlash to see Buddhist retreat, soay sheep, eriskay ponies, etc,

-   short crossing to Isle of Pladda and an exploration of south coast's basalt dykes and cliffs

-   paddle up the south west coast to see Kings Cave and raised beaches

-   tour of Brodick Bay, including paddle up the river and visit to Brodick Castle Harbour

-   Brodick to Clauchlands point and beyond

Hi Annette,

It would have been great to join you, however I will be paddling on Lewis and Harris with Cumbria Canoeists.

Looking forward to next time.

Cheers George

I'll set up a WhatsApp group so we can aim to share lifts. I'm moving on to the Largs Paddle Fest late Friday 30th Aug, so I can do the Round Big Cumbrae Race on Saturday 31st again - 18km.
