Weekend at St Abbs/Berwick on Tweed area

Event details

UPDATE 24.8.23: Tim and Nicola to meet on Wednesday morning to look at forecast and decide on a plan. We will email you that morning with final arrangements . Surely September owes us some calm and beautiful weather ?!

Event Co-ordinator : Nicola Hartley

Trip leader : Tim Mather assisted by Andy Gilham and Annette Morris

Type of trip : Sea kayak improver level

Dates Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd September 2023

Location : North east coast , Berwick on Tweed / St Abbs area

We will meet at the agreed location at 7pm on the Friday evening, aiming to finish 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

Plan A. Camp Friday night at Paxton House campsite, 8km up the Tweed from Berwick. Saturday morning shuttle vehicles and launch on the Tweed from the campsite (we have permission) , paddle down the Tweed , through historic Berwick bridges and up the coast. We have identified a wild camp spot for Saturday night weather permitting. If not, return to Paxton House for second night and do a Sunday paddle north of St Abbs Head if conditions allow.

Hi Nicola.  I'm keen on this and have signed up but I might not be able to arrive until the Saturday morning (or maybe pretty late on Friday).  Let's see how this might fit in with others.  Andy.

From my limited experience of the east coast, usually swell from the east. Ability to do surf landings necessary. St Abbs a rocky coast line with limited get outs.  However, if weather is calm it's a wonderful place.

I'm happy to do some research and planning but I haven't kayaked this piece of coast.  My main problem is that I can't arrive until Saturday morning and whether this is doable for me depends upon start timer and location.
