PLEASE DO NOT RSVP IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE INITIAL DISCUSSION GROUP (I CANVASSED FOR INTEREST A COUPLE OF MONTHS OR SO AGO). IF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN THIS, MESSAGE ME PRIVATELY
Those on the mailing list, I encourage you to attend both sessions but if you can’t it is ok just to sign up for one.
Many paddlers struggle with rolling, some in spite of many years of reasonable success, partial success and a great deal of angst and effort. Some develop a roll that works in the pool but not in the real world. Others maintain a semi-reliable roll that sometimes works in anger. Few develop a bomb proof roll that reliably stays with them throughout their paddling career. Some never manage to learn at all. And many of us regress after thinking we’ve grasped it! We see a lot of swimming!
I want to raise the bar – to improve all round rolling skills and give people the confidence to take their roll to the river or sea. The benefits:
· Reduced frustration in individuals and the group generally.
· Less trepidation will lead to more endeavour and ‘play’ – and therefore improved skills.
· Most importantly, swims will be reduced – improving all round river / sea safety to the whole party.
Your part in this is to take the opportunity to receive input from a professional, Ian Adey, in the mechanisms and the nuances that make rolling work reliably. We can then practice and carry forward these new found skills. The obvious, not so hidden, benefit is that these sessions could inevitably hone your own rolling skills!
The coaching sessions will take place onMonday 4thand Monday 11thSeptemberat the Leisure centre.
19:30pm – 20:30pm - the first hour in the Lonsdale Suite. Don't be late - we will start promptly.
20:30 to 22:00 - 1.5 hrs in the pool.
Trainee coaches will pay £10 each per session. The total cost to the club will be around £400.
The maximum number of trainee coaches per session is 8.
Only at the session on the 11th will we need students to practice on. We will be practicing with each other at the session on the 4th.
Bring your own boats (cleaned of course!)
All the normal pool protocols apply.

Reference: Roll 4th & Roll 11th
NOTE: There is space for 8 and there are 9 on the circulation here. No doubt someone won't be available, so hopefully everyone who still intends to come will get an opportunity. Ideally you will attend both sessions to reap the full rewards of how Ian will develop and progress his methodology. Please let me know if you can’t attend either of the sessions and I will canvas interest elsewhere.
Thanks to Mike Powell for negotiating pool concessions, giving me general support, and helping this venture move forward, and to the Committee for their support.
