North End of Walney (Cancelled again)

Event details

Trip cancelled once again.

Wind forecast F5 to F7 from the east for most of the day, a high probability of rain and temperatures peaking at 6C. Not my idea of a pleasant day out. I will try again in a few weeks.

A paddle anticlockwise around the North end of the island. Starting just North of Jubilee Bridge and finishing at Earnse Bay

1. Event co-ordinator Sten Sture

2. Trip Leader leader Sten Sture

3. Trip type: Sea

4. Level of ability : improver or better

5. Date: Wednesday 2nd March

6. Venue : Walney Island

7. Meet location / time : meet at http://streetmap.co.uk/map?X=318629&Y=468792&A=Y&Z=110 Slip way just north of Jubilee Bridge on Walney Island at 10:20 to arrange shuttle to Earnse Bay with the aim of being on the water before 11:10

8. Meet to arrange shuttle: As Above

9. Anything else:

The aim is to have a nice leisurely and sociable paddle with a picnic at North End Hawes. Bring a flask and a sandwich along with calm weather and sunshine.

This trip is 10km long with tidal assistance for the first 5km up Walney Channel. Depending on the wind direction there may be some slight over falls in Scarth Channel as we round North End Hawes

This trip is weather dependant so if the forecast is unfavourable the extent of the trip or the venue may change possibly to a lake or the trip  may be cancelled. I will post the decision on here on Tuesday 1st by 18:00.

Tide height is 9.27m.

HW Barrow is at 11:12 so aim to be on the water by 11:10 latest

Should arrive at the finish by 15:30

Sea kayaks.

RSVP limit provisionally set at 6 but I may increase this to 8 depending on the experience in the group.

Please read notes re trips here:

I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water.

Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending.

RSVP at least 2 days before the event

Really sorry Sten, I find myself tied up with contractors all this week, I tried to change the dates but they are all busy so its difficult to agree move dates around.

I was really looking forward to this paddle at Walney as I haven't done the North of Walney. I am sure there will be other paddles around Walney and I look forward to them.

Cheers George
