Learning / Improving how to coach rolling - Professional Input from Ian Addy Session 2 -Trainee club rolling coaches

Event details

PLEASE DO NOT RSVP TO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO TAKE PART AS A ‘LEARNING TO ROLL’ STUDENT FOR THIS PARTICULAR DATE. THIS IS NOT A 'NORMAL' POOL SESSION.

A number of our volunteer club 'coaches' will be receiving training from Ian Adey, a professional coach, on learning to, or refining the way they teach paddlers how to roll.

For this session, we require 4 volunteers (these have been previously agreed) to assist Ian with coaching the coaches.

Note the pool times: 20:30 start, and will last for 90 minutes, finishing at 22:00.

  • Bring your own boat - cleaned as per normal, or use pool boat.
  • The normal pool protocols will apply.
  • You might be spending some time upside down. If a nose clip helps with comfort, bring one.

Cost £10.

Please sign up and pay by BACS in advance to Lakeland Canoe Club, Sort Code 20 45 28, Account 80558613, Reference P11Sep23.

Can I be on a waiting list for this session?

Hi Giles, 11 people replied to my original requests on WhatsApp and in the newsletter so I'm afraid you're quite a way down the queue on the 11th. It's not all bad news though, as this initiative is all about biblically "teaching a man to fish". Equiping our own people with better skills. Hopefully, there shoud be a decent improvement in the way we teach rolling. There are 8 trainee coaches, most of whom regularly attend the pool, so you can either tap into that resource or we can arrange some open water sessions before it al becomes too cold. My recollection is that you can roll fairly well?? I imagine it should be fairly easy for you to pick up better self awareness, and tweak skills to perfect your roll.
