Improvers Skill Development, Halton Rapids Park and Ply

Event details

This is a half day skill development session for kayaks only. The level of ability is aimed at people who wish to develop at the improver standard.

The sessions will be ongoing and are supported by Mike Sunderland.

We will look at basic river safety, the forward stroke, ferries, edging and break out\ins.  There will be a focus on practice and consolidating technique.

There will be a ratio of one leader to three paddlers, so capacity will depend on the number of leaders supporting.

1. Event coordinator: Mark Webster

2. Session Leader: Mark Webster

3. Trip type: Park and Play at Halton Rapids

4. Level of Ability: Improver

5. Date: 26/11/2022

7. If the level is above 1.10 metres the session will be cancelled for safety reasons.

8. I will set up a WhatsApp group two days before.

Bring a Snack and a Warm Flask as we will have a break in the middle.

Please read LCC notes regarding river trips here …….

I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water.

Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. We can discuss any questions about the kit required and/or alternatively…….

There is a link at the bottom of the page for Kit. There are other useful links, all of which are recommended reading.

Could I emphasize ......

Dry suits preferred - in summer it might be possible to manage without a dry suit, but in winter an early dip has more severe consequences for the individual concerned and the rest of the group. It's starting to get chillier now.

Kayak specific helmets with protection over temples and ears must be worn on theses trips. Something like a Sweet Rocker as oppose to a Sweet Strutter - over brands are available

Details can be found here…….

The club does have a number of kayak specific helmets available for hire
