Lakeland Canoe Club

Grade 2(3) River Trip

Event details

I would like to arrange a fairly regular midweek feature within the calendar where a group of four, five including myself can run some rivers that fall within the remit of British Canoeing Moderate Water definitions

The sort of rivers I had in mind would not exceed Grade 2(3)

My intention is to   keep river choice at the bottom of the remit – Grade 2 rather than solid Grade 3

1. Event co-ordinator: Brian Clough

2. Trip Leader: Brian Clough

3. Trip type: River

Propose Upper Lune - however I will continue to monitor river levels

4. Level of Ability :

       Beginner / Improver.

We will put on the river below and avoiding the initial gorge under the bridge

Take out is marked on the map as Crook of Lune on a 1:50000 OS Map

5. Date: 02/12/2021

6. Venue/Meet/Share Lifts:

Meet at 10:00 in the parking space at the bridge over the river ......

7. Anything else:

Bring a PicNic and a Warm Flask for a stop along the way.

Please read notes regarding river trips here…….

I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water.

Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. We can discuss any questions about the kit required and /or alternatively…….

There is a link at the bottom of the page for Kit. There are other useful links, all of which are recommended reading.

Could I also draw your attention to …….

https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/risk-assessments-for-river-trips/

Any river in flood or spate is considered to be out with the club remit due to the additional risk of rescuing as swimmer and the extra difficulties rescuing kit. Similarly any rapid or fall for which adequate safety can be not set is considered out with the club remit.

Attendees will be added to a WhatsApp group for the event. Please check WhatsApp and the calendar to confirm location, suitable river levels, and that the trip is running.

Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip please.

No problem George -  we have had a power outage as well

I wonder if you could take your name off the guest list please

Not sure of the river just yet - levels may well be unpredictable over the next few days

Hi Brian. Sorry about this I was getting my days mixed up. I have been able to re-schedule things for Thursday. Subject to John S confirming I can loan the large burn. However Sunday may be in the balance. Everything at the moment is in flux.

I really do appreciate you running these sessions for those of us still developing our basic river skills. I learnt a lot from our last outing and as a consequence felt I made reasonable progress and do apologise for the fact I was completely knackered by the time we were hauling out the kayaks. Cheers George
