PEER trip
Organiser : Simon Lerpiniere / 07811144461
Background: A great way to learn and improve skills is via focused and structured practice.  I'm working towards my white water kayak leader assessment having completed my training last year.  Including structured and fun sessions on the water is part of the award, but also great for your and my skills too.
The aim of this session will be picking, and hitting lines.  We will be assessing each rapid from the bank, talking about it, choosing a line, trying to hit it, then getting out and trying again.  We'll pick a short-ish section of river with easy options for retries on the various rapids.  You might be aiming for the easiest possible line, or the hardest possible line.  We may even pick out some challenges if it's too easy!
1. Trip type : River
2. Level of ability : Improver (please leave spaces for improvers)
3. Date : 05/09/2020
4. Venue : River Kent down to above force falls.
5. Meet location / time : 10.0am at get-out
6. Meet to share lifts at : No lift share due to Covid-19.
7. Weather : We want low-ish water for this.  So some sun and light rain here and there would be good.  Heavy rain all week, not so much.
8. Anything else : Running shuttles with mitigation, so please bring your own face covering or organise your own shuttle.
Please make sure you've read the club's (and British Canoeing) guidance regarding kayaking and Covid-19.  Please read notes re river trips here: https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/
Note: this is a peer trip.  I am happy to co-ordinate and organise the trip, but we are all responsible for each other on the water.

PEER TRIP (Cancelled)
THIS TRIP IS NOW CANCELLED DUE TO UPDATED SCOTTISH COVID 19 GUIDANCE
Participants use 'Ailsa Craig' WhatsApp group for alternative arrangements.
Thurs 17th (HW Greenock 1324):  on the water  / depart Lendalfoot for 1100. Tidal streams are generally weak (0.6kts) but this trip is to be held during spring tides and these run 90° across proposed track. Last 2 hours of flood and first 2 hours of ebb (ish).
Trip to be confirmed/updated on Tuesday evening 15th Sept.
Co-ordinator : Andy Murphy
1. Trip type:  Sea:  Thurs crossing to Ailsa Craig from Lendalfoot. Camp on AC overnight and return Friday.
2. Level of ability:  Advanced  - max 6. All equipment to be self-contained.
3. Date: Weds 16th to Friday 18th Sept 2020
4. Venue :  Lendalfoot - Ailsa Craig return
5. Meet location / time : Lendalfoot 2000 Wednesday 16th.
6. Meet to share lifts at?: No lift shares due to Covid. All paddling, camping, cooking and bivis to follow Covid guidelines ( self-reliant and self-sufficient).
7. Anything else:
Ailsa Craig is uninhabited and so all equipment for a safe overnight must be carried.
The landing at Ailsa Craig is not straightforward in any swell or chop and in the event of being unable to land a return journey may have to be made having had 'no stretch of the legs'.
Easterly winds are notoriously fickle in this area with afternoon winds often generated above those forecast so packing extra food / fuel and a willingness to 'ride it out' required. This may involve a night-paddle return.
Pee-bottles useful.

Official trip
Its all about the edge!
Session 3 will cover using river features to help us get where we need to go. We'll examine the tactics employed to manage our groups safely and to hit those swish looking  lines ( also what a line is ).
Sessions will be limited to 6 paddlers  because of Covid restrictions but don't be disheartened if the R.S.V.P limit has been reached. Send us a message on 07927199545 and with enough interest we will be able to assign additional coaches to take another group or 2.
Equipment is available for hire if required. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.
