Aim is to offer a gentle introduction to the skills needed to join a river trip. Instruction/ coaching included. These session will be a valuable learning opportunity, to gain confidence; for those with limited river experienced, improvers with a few rivers in the bag, as a refresher for those returning to rivers or to hone skills. Minimum requirement is ability to control your kayak accurately and confidently on flat water. Warm clothing essential and ability to smile in the event of a capsize. Location will be determined by water levels. Maybe, likely involve spending some time at one location introducing and refining skills followed by a short downriver section. The session will be lead by club members who are seeking their 4 * leaders award , supported by more a more experienced paddler. Your own kit is best but we may be able top arrange to borrow if necessary.
  6. A "follow on" river for beginners, those who have been enjoying the intoduction sessions or indeed anybody who wants to come along. 1. Grade 2 river section: Lune - Rigmaden Bridge to Kirby Lonsdale. An oppertunity to run a section of a very pretty river not really seen from anywhere else except the river. Lots of nice features, eddies and gradually building to a Grade II+ rapid. Am I selling it to you? 2. Saturday 15th Decemeber. 3. Organised by Cumbria RDT (Cumbria Canoeists) Hosted by Killington Sailing Association Free Canoe Demo Day Killington Lake (LA8 0NW)Saturday 6th October 2018 10.00am – 2.00pm Including touring boats, family boats, lightweight layups, solo boats and boats suitable for smaller paddlers and children. Please bring your buoyancy aid.

    Event cancelled as 50mph winds forecast. 2 day trip camping overnight. Suitable for open boats and sea kayaks- yes sea kayak on a river- only 3 short easy rapids to negotiate. Meet at river bank near Kenbridge Hotel ( by A712 bridge over Water of Ken) Flat water to Loch Ken, descend Loch Ken. Portae dam at end of Loch. Paddle river Dee to Bring of Dee We will wild camp. Happy to help all with portaging the dam wall! This trip for those that want to experience multi day trip and would like to do camping also.

  19. This Thursday eve we have an RDT Meeting in Burneside and need a crowd!! RDT Meeting Access FocusThursday April 5th 2018 7.00 pm - 9.00 pm (Meet 6.30 pm ) Bryce Institute, Burneside, nr. KendalLA9 6QZ From the A591 take the Burneside road (Hollins Lane), down the hill and over the level crossing, and turn left at the T junction onto the main road through Burneside . The Bryce Institute is on the left just beyond the Station. This Meeting will focus upon Waterways , Access and the Environment

  22. The retailer Go Kayaking North West, based in Runcorn, is teaming up with the Ribble Canoe Club to provide a demo day for clubs in the region. The day is aimed for clubs and paddlers to come and tryout a selection of world class boats at Halton Rapids. It is also a great opportunity for you to meet your Regional Development Team. Halton Mill, Mill Lane, Halton, LA2 6ND 10am to 2pm Please use the Clean Rooms carpark at Riverside House just opposite Halton Mill, where there is ample space.

Sea Kayak Demo Day - Killington Sun, 11 March, 10am – 2pm Killington Sailing Association, Reservoir Rd, Kendal LA8 0NW, UK (map) DescriptionBefore buying a sea kayak or surfski you should try as many as you can, and Sea Kayak Oban’s demo days are the perfect opportunity. At these demo days we will have at least 4 different kayak brands – Valley/P&H/North Shore/Tahe – in lots of different sizes and styles. There will also be a couple of Epic Surfskis.
