Chris Wood is attending Coniston Paddle and Rescue Practice Evening

PLEASE LEAVE FINAL PLACE FOR PETE GLASPER WHO IS BEING CARRIED FROM LAST, CANCELLED, ASSESSMENT DATE. THANKS. Sea Kayak – Moderate Water Leader Assessment - Short Day Trip - Most likely Walney Island (but other nearby location possible) Chris Wood and Dean Copley, subject to the appropriate weather, will be taking their leader assessment on Friday 25th April. We need 3 other paddlers to make this happen 🙏 Paddlers should be comfortable paddling in intermediate conditions, up to Force 4 winds and up to a metre of swell. Part of the trip will be looking at areas of development of the group, such as boat control in wind, landing/launching in surf etc, so a good opportunity to come along with some areas for development (conditions allowing). The day will involve a short trip, in two halves each led by Chris or Dean, such as Walneyt Channel round to Earnst Point, with rescue and other incidents thrown in, which will be a great learning opportunity for those wanting to improve their own sea safety knowledge or looking to the future at potential assessment.. Most likely venue will be north or south Walney, but we may use another more shelered venue locally if necessary. 1. Trip coordinator and leaders – nominally Chris Wood and Dean Copley – with overall supervision from the assessor, Dan Wilkinson. 2. Trip type – sea – strictly sea kayaks. 3. Venue and meeting place – to be decided before the day, as conditions determine. 4. Level of ability - intermediate 5. Lift sharing – to be determined through WhatsApp and depending on paddling location. 6. Other: a. Please bring the equipment as per the LCC requirements at this level KIT REQUIRED and Safety & Rescue Skills. Happy to chat about kit on the day. b. HELMETS and DRYSUITS arerequired. There may be awkward landings and the rescues will require immersion. c. Rolling – you won’t be required to roll. Whilst it’s good practice, it’s not part of the assessment. d. Please bring a TROLLEY if you have one. If you fancy this, but aren’t sure if your level is appropriate, please contact Chris or Dean.

until1. Event co-ordinator: Chris Wood 2. Trip leader: Chris Wood and David Mawdsley 3. Trip type: Three days paddling on the Fife coast from Aberdour through to Tayport. Based at a campsite TBC. Day 1 to 3 - Day trips, out and back or shuttle based, approx 10-15km per day. 3 full days paddling. Routes to be determined by weather/conditions/group. 4. Level of ability: Improvers only please. For an understanding of what an "Improver" means see https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/levels-of-experience-sea-trips/ 5. Date: Friday 28th March to Sunday 30th March. 6. Venue: Fife coast from Aberdour through to Tayport. 7. Meet location / time: TBC closer to time. Aiming to meet on morning of 28th at first venue or campsite night before. 8. Meet to share lifts at: TBC 9. Notes: Improvers get priority, sea kayaks only. Group will be stopping at one of the many campsites along the Fife Coast (ideally one with a mix of camping, van pitches and camping pods). Campsite venue TBC. Once RSVP limit reached we'l set up a WhatsApp group to decide on campsite and other detail. See a sample of possible sea kayak routes here https://scottishseakayaking.co.uk/trips/south-east-scotland/ (Routes 8-12). This trip is weather dependent. While there are lots of options for venues in the Fife area if conditions are not looking suitable - and this is a small possibility in March - we may look to another area for the trip at late notice. The trip will be led by a BC qualified or an LCC approved leader, however we will paddle as a team taking joint responsibility for each other’s safety on the water. Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. Kit lists at https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/sea-kayak-safety-kit/

Chris Wood is attending Skye Sea Kayak Trip

untilEvent co-ordinator: Natalie Thorp Trip leader(s): Chris Wood + Mike Beechey Trip type: Sea Level of ability: Improver Date: Saturday 10th to Saturday 17th May 2025 Venue: Various locations south/east/west Skye. Meet location / time: TBC on Trip WhatsApp group once participants confirmed Meet to share lifts at: As above Anything else: Sea kayaks only. A 7 day event exploring various locations around Skye with single and multi-day trips. Skye is a magical island with a wide variety of paddling experiences. We will go with a rough itinerary based on some of the classic trips shown in https://scottishseakayaking.co.uk/trips/skye-raasay/ around the south, east and west of Skye. Though weather is often quite settled in Skye this time of year we will stay flexible and be led by conditions where necessary. We will use a combination of campsites and wild camping throughout the week, and you may need to be prepared to do some long drives to get to suitable venues or for shuttles, though we’ll do our best to keep driving to a minimum. This is an improver trip but you should be prepared and capable to do 20-30km days on the sea, and have the kit for wild camping from your sea kayak for one or two nights. Contant the Trip Organiser if you are unsure about your suitability for the trip. The trip will be led by a BC qualified or an LCC approved leader, however we will paddle as a team taking joint responsibility for each other’s safety on the water. Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. Kit lists at https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/sea-kayak-safety-kit/ RSVP at least 2 days before the event. Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip only.
