Event co-ordinator: Sally Soady (LCC team only!) Trip leader(s): N/A - organised by West Cumbria Canoe Club Trip type: flat water / social Level of ability: Any Date: 24th April Venue: Derwentwater Marina, CA12 5RF Meet location / time: Meet to share lifts at: would be good to share lifts, esp as no boats involved. Anything else Tiger Boats are like Dragon Boats but are slightly more stable. They take a crew of 10 paddlers (more or less) plus a helm (provided by West Cumbria Canoe Club) and an optional drummer. Two of the paddlers should be juniors (12 - 16). Derwentwater Marina is kindly loaning their two boats and there will be a series of short sprint races to find the top winning crew. The Marina is also kindly donating a Tiger Boat Trophy. Each crew has two races head to head against other crews and then the fastest two crews race in the final. These races happen in quick succession with the aim to finish by 8.00.p.m. Please bring warm clothes, full waterproofs, buoyancy aid and a warm hat. A capsize is very unlikely but please bring a change of clothes just in case - also some cash for the BBQ that happens at the same time as the races. We will provide paddles (leave these in the boat). Races start from 6.30 pm. as people arrive and as soon as teams say they are ready. Each crew races twice and then the fastest take part in the final. These races happen in quick succession and we aim to have the tiger boats ashore and the prize giving by 8 pm, so that those from the more distant clubs can drive home and we can head down the pub and celebrate! Refreshments Rain or shine, we will have a BBQ running at the same time as the races with quality food and hot / cold drinks provided at very reasonable prices - a choice of Thomason's steak, sausage, or veggie sausage all in a bap. We hope the evening is going to be warm and tropical - but if not, we will have some cover from gazebos. RSVP at least 2 days before the event Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip only.

This session is for those signed up to the Sea Improvers Group only Do not book on this session unless you are already a member of this group, if you are not in the Sea Improvers WhatApp group, you are not signed up! For this session, can everyone plan a one-day trip suitable for improvers (could be on a lake). British Canoeing have a journey planning sheet that you might find useful: https://britishcanoeingawarding.org.uk/wp-content/files/01032017JourneyPlanningSheetV1-1Oct21.pdf Volunteers to lead discussions on aspects of trip planning at this meeting are: * Nicola - issues to take into account when planning a trip * Graham - where to get info on the weather, tides, swell, etc. * Sally - environmental issues to take into account * Giles - a Masterclass on getting events onto the LCC calendar and managing the bookings. The intention is for people to critique each other's plans and end up with say a dozen trip ideas we can then seek leaders for, so these are trips that you will be actively involved in planning and organising
