Flamborough Head to Scarborough

Event details

1. Trip type:  Coastal trip

2. Level of ability : Advanced or confident intermediate

3. Date: Paddling Sat 8th & Sun 9th July

4. Venue: Campsite to be confirmed.

5. Meet location / time : Meet either at the campsite (night before) or put-in which will be confirmed/discussed by WhatsApp

6. Meet to share lifts at: Arrange your own lift-shares. Use of the trip specific WhatsApp group may be helpful for this

7. Anything else:

The main aim is to round Flamborough Head, Bempton Cliffs, continuing to Filey. The other day will likely be a coastal trip locally, possibly continuing north from Filey to Scarborough, although to be decided based on weather / sea state & group preferences. All plans are subject to an assessment of the conditions at the time of paddling and may change as a result. I'm hoping to spend some time exploring the caves if swell & tide conditions allow.

Some sea kayak surfing may feature during one or both of the days depending on conditions

Parts of this trip will be quite committing due to the lack of landing opportunities along the high cliffs which extend for several km either side of the Flamborough headland. The headland is exposed to wind and swell from most directions. Once beyond the cliffs the beaches may be subject to surf which could make landing a challenge. Please refer to LCC’s guidance on trip suitability, & if you’re not sure just give me a call on 07730411538 for a chat.

I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water.

Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip.

Afternoon! I'm new to the club and this sign up system so please excuse what may be a silly question - if the trip numbers limit is reached is there a way to be added to a waiting list incase someone drops out? Also, is this trip limited to 6 due to leader's remit? If so, would another leader being available increase the numbers? Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch, & welcome to the club. Yes it's the leader that sets the rsvp limit. The web page offers an RSVP button until the places are filled, so it's tricky to keep a waiting list as such. However when people drop out of a trip they tend to post on the WhatsApp group that their place has become available & they remove themselves from the rsvp list so someone else can sign up. So it's first come first served.

Depending on the trip participant limits may be extended if another leader is present. In this case though I'd prefer to keep the group concise to keep logistics simple. However there's nothing to stop another leader organising the same or similar trip independently if there was demand for it.
