Lakeland Canoe Club

Beginners River Trip

Event details

 Share

I have been arranging a fairly regular midweek feature within the calendar where a group of four, five including myself can run some rivers that fall within the remit of British Canoeing Moderate Water definitions

The sort of rivers I have in mind would not exceed Grade 2(3)

My intention is still to  keep river choice at the bottom of the remit – Grade 2 rather than solid Grade 3

These trips are aimed at paddlers in their early stages of their development as whitewater paddlers and are building up their experience of running rivers

1. Event co-ordinator: Brian Clough

2. Trip Leader: Brian Clough

3. Trip type: River Eden - Lazonby to Armathwaite

4. Level of Ability : Beginner / Improver

5. Date: 06/01/2022

6. Venue/Meet/Share Lifts:

Lazonby Car Park

Will meet at 10:00

7. Anything else:

Bring a PicNic and a Warm Flask for a stop along the way.

Please read notes regarding river trips here…….

I am happy to co-ordinate and lead the trip. However, as we will be a team, we are jointly responsible for each other’s safety on the water.

Please ensure you carry the correct kit for the trip you are attending. We can discuss any questions about the kit required and /or alternatively…….

There is a link at the bottom of the page for Kit. There are other useful links, all of which are recommended reading.

Could I also draw your attention to …….

https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/risk-assessments-for-river-trips/

Any river in flood or spate is considered to be out with the club remit due to the additional risk of rescuing as swimmer and the extra difficulties rescuing kit. Similarly any rapid or fall for which adequate safety can be not set is considered out with the club remit.

Attendees will be added to a WhatsApp group for the event. Please check WhatsApp and the calendar to confirm location, suitable river levels, and that the trip is running.

Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip please.

Once again I will leave it to the last minute to allow beginners the opportunity but if there is a space left I would like to come along. Will hold of on the Rsvp until the

evening of Wednesday 5th.

Afternoon Brian , sorry for the late notice but unfortunately due to snow warning over here and up your way tomorrow I am going to have to cancel going on your Eden trip. I was looking forward to getting out after my short day on the Ribble.Apologies again ,just don’t fancy getting stuck Manchester side as M62 does occasionally get closed.

I'll also watch the weather for tomorrow and if it looks bad I may have to pull out. Will this be a problem, that is to drop out at the last minute?

In order to give you some notice. I've just watched the forecast and have decided to give it a miss, which is a shame. However I have just done it Sunday but would have appreciated another shot.

Sorry.

Hope you have a good day.

Stephen.
