Due to work committments there has been a request to alter the details of this trip. It is therefore now planned to run from Tuesday 5th Nov to Sat 9th Nov - two days earlier than originally planned. The new plan is to travel up on the Tuesday and to get the car shuttle done and out of the way. Then to canoe the length of the river over the next four days, travelling home on the evening of the last day (Saturday). (Alternatively you can stay over and travel on the Sunday if you want).

    1. Trip type: Two day river trip with wild camp suitable for open canoes and kayaks (gear carrying option in the open boats) 2. Level of ability : Improver 3. Date: Wed/Thurs 25th and 26th Sept 4. Venue : River Annan 5. Meet location / time : Johnstone Bridge car park just off junction 16 of the A74 M at 0930 6. Meet to share lifts at: not possible due to carrying open boats 7. Anything else: see description below The Annan is a beautiful river in Southern Scotland that is usually classed as grade I – II paddling. This trip is to cover roughly 28 miles of the river over two days in order to allow for travel time there and back for Cumbrian paddlers. Suitable for improvers (see club definition at https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/). Suitable for solo and tandem open canoes. If you don’t have one come along and tandem in someone else’s boat! Alternatively come in your kayak and put your gear in someone else's open canoe (like mine!!) We will be carrying all our camping kit with us. The plan is to camp at a forested riverside site which is fine for tents but is also perfect for tarps and hammocks etc. if you want to try something different. It is also discreet enough for a camp fire. This is an ideal trip to try out or refresh your canoe camping (and packing!) skills prior to undertaking a longer trip such as the River Spey in November. Please make your own arrangements if you want to car share. Post questions below and Andrew will get back to you. RSVP at least 2 days before the event Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip only.

PEER TRIP A classic descent of the River Spey from Aviemore to Spey Bay in open canoes carrying all of our camping kit and covering approximately 69 miles through beautiful Highland scenery. The plan would be to complete the trip in three-and-a-half days of paddling with time to pack up and travel home on the last day. This will entail three nights of wild camping after the clocks have gone back, when the days are a little shorter and the nights a little cooler (and potentially wetter). It will involve early starts and full days of paddling but this will be assisted by the flow of the river. The trip is a peer trip (no official coaching/instruction etc.) and is suitable for improvers (see club description https://lakelandcanoeclub.wordpress.com/trips/). You would have to be able to steer the loaded canoe safely, including through Grade II rapids, so some experience on moving water is essential. The trip will be suitable for solo and tandem boats. If you don't have an open canoe and want to come then get in touch anyway as there are likely to be one or two places in what would otherwise be solo boats. The plan would be to meet in the car park opposite the Old Bridge Inn in Aviemore at 9:00 am ready to get the three hour car shuttle underway. For most people this will mean travelling up the night before and staying over in a hostel/B+B close by. Please make your own arrangements if you want to travel together. Details at this stage are provisional with confirmation of specifics nearer the time. Post questions below and Andrew will get back to you. RSVP at least 7 days before the event Guests by arrangement with organiser, prior to trip only.
